These cards serve as the fundamental building blocks for developing emotional literacy. Recognising and understanding emotions is a vital skill for effectively managing oneself and achieving self-regulation, both of which are essential for academic success.

Identifying emotions means being able to recognise thoughts, sensations and feelings within our body and brain. This can help us to manage our emotions, learn better and respond more calmly and thoughtfully to our classmates, friends, teachers and family members. On the back of the cards, you will find questions that will support you and your students to begin to develop the skills of emotional literacy and self regulation.

Did you know Neuroscience has shown that “if you can name it, you can tame it” - labelling an emotion is itself a form of emotional regulation.

You can now start using them to ensure your young people are in a state of readiness to learn.
